If you have an Amazon Echo or other Alexa device but aren’t sure what you can ask Alexa or how to manage your device, that’s where the Alexa app and website can come to your rescue.

You should already have the Alexa app on your mobile phone or tablet since you needed it to set up your device (if not, snag it for iOS or Android). But there’s much more you can do with it and the website: consult them to find out what you can ask Alexa; change the wake word for your device; rename your Alexa device; and add or modify the location for your device.

Let’s look at the Alexa app and website to see how they can help you.

The Alexa app and website are available to help you whether you own an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Show, or other Alexa device. The mobile app is probably more convenient—that’s what I’ll use for this article—but both offer the same features and options.

Okay, so how do you find out just what you can ask Alexa? Open the Alexa app and tap on the hamburger icon (). Then tap on the section for “Skills.”

Browse through the different skills to see what you can ask Alexa. The skills on the home screen are displayed by top-enabled, recommended, customer favorites, new skills, trending skills, and more.

Tap on the “Categories” button to view specific categories of skills, such as Business & Finance, Education & Reference, Health & Fitness, News, Shopping, Smart Home, and Weather.

Tap on a category that interests you. The app shows you all the things you can ask Alexa in that category.
